Oosterhuis was a painter who turned to photography by 1851. He became noted for his stereoscopic views on daguerreotype plates, on glass, and on paper. Andries Jager was a photographer and publisher. This particular image is from a series of cabinet cards published by Jager of various cities in the Netherlands, including some especially beautiful harbor and canal views.
